Mayor Lori Lightfoot Receives COVID-19 Vaccine

As Covid-19 cases continue to rise, many Chicagoans are still skeptical about taking the vaccine; but not Lori Lightfoot. This past week, the Mayor of Chicago took her first dose of the vaccine to show the City and its residents that it's perfectly safe, in addition informing citizens about its availability.

"I want you to hear it from me: the COVID-19 vaccine is safe. Period," said Mayor Lightfoot. "I'm excited to get it to protect myself and my loved ones from this terrible virus."

The Mayor also added reassurance for those who may have doubt or fear about taking the vaccine.

"I know there's some hesitancy out in the community to get it, especially among our Black and Latinx Chicagoans. A hesitancy that is rooted in a history of mistreatment in our country. But as a Black woman, I'm stepping up and getting it, and I encourage everyone to do the same."

As for now, the Mayor is working along with the Chicago Department of Public Health to ensure racial equity in the next phase of vaccine distribution through the Protect Chicago Plus Initiative, which will target Chicago's most impacted and vulnerable communities.
