Former WGCI Program Director, Kris Kelley, Passes Away
I bring sad news to the media and broadcasting industry. Kris Kelley, Former PD of WGCI Chicago, has passed away, According to reports, Kelley was found dead in her Philadelphia apartment this past week.
"Kelley first came to Chicago in March 2007, joining WGCI-FM as Program Director and part-time on-air personality. Early on in her time here, Kelley was the Program Director that fired top-rated morning show host Crazy Howard McGee, replacing him with syndicated programming, which ended up with far lower ratings and revenue. Two years later, her role was reduced to Assistant Program Director at WGCI-FM and she was given an on-air role at WVAZ-FM/V103, taking over the popular midday shift."
Years later, Clear Channel Media announced Kris Kelley with a double role of Program Director, overseeing both WGCI-FM and WKSC-FM/103.5 Kiss FM; however, that role ended in 2013.
Kelley is also a native of Philadelphia, PA and a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. Right now, no cause of death has been reported. Our prayers and condolences goes out to Kris Kelley's family.
Within 1 month, it's sad to say terrible news has hit my former iHeart family once again. Last night, I learned that Kris Kelley has passed away. She was the Program Director of WGCI, here in Chicago, when I was an intern back in 2011 and 2012. Looking back at that time, I have so many memories under Kris direction at the station. She would walk in a room and have everybody up on their toes. She embodied the word "boss" and she was so small and petite. I will never forget Kris. My prayers and condolences go out to her family at this time. #RestInPeace #KrisKelley
